Alabama’s Waterproofing Specialists

Water leaks in your basement, crawl space, storage areas or lower levels of the home pose a significant and dangerous problem. Mold, mildew and insect infestation are typically the results of untreated water leaks. Water leaks can also cause damage to heating and air conditioning equipment and electrical systems as well as your flooring, carpeting and furnishings. In extreme cases, the purity of the water supply to your home may be compromised, making it unsafe for drinking, cooking, bathing and laundry. If untreated, leaks may lead to water damage spreading to sheetrock walls and to the wood framing that forms the basic vertical structure of your home. This situation can make many of your home’s areas unsafe and unusable, and it may degrade air quality and affect people with allergies and those who have respiratory issues

The most common source of leaks is water entering your home through cracks in foundation walls and basement floors caused by pressure from under the basement floor or footers that creates small cracks allowing water to leak into the basement space. This is more typical in southern states due to our frequent and above average total rainfall as well as our extreme rain events. Cracks may or may not be visible to the untrained observer. In contrast to a single heavy rain occurrence, the cumulative impact of repeated rain events may also create a buildup of excess soil moisture that causes leaks. Concrete block walls are especially susceptible to water leaks because both the blocks and the mortar between the blocks are quite porous, and both offer little resistance to intruding water. But all untreated mortar is porous and therefore vulnerable to water leakage. Window ledges are another culprit offering water the opportunity to leak downward into lower levels of your home. Leaks may also be hidden behind walls or paneling. These problems are likely the most difficult for the average homeowner to identify. The unfortunate reality of water leaks is that they are recurring with each rain event and become more intrusive and problematic over time.

Waterproofing your foundation can correct these problems, and it will ensure that your home and its contents are secure and that the value of your home is maintained.
